Signature of new Memorandum of Understanding with Hungary

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ANACOM and the National Communications Authority of Hungary (NCAH) was signed in Budapest last 11 January. So far, the relationship between ANACOM and the Hungarian regulator was established in the framework of a MoU signed in 1998, which was now revised in order to reflect the developments achieved in the sector, in both countries, including the accession of Hungary into the European Union.

In the scope of the new memorandum, the exchange of information on several topics has been provided for: the development of policies and strategies on communications in both countries; national laws and regulations regarding communications; national communications markets and the activities of both regulatory authorities.

The possibility of an annual exchange of expert level delegations remains, aiming at the study of technical, legal and other aspects of regulatory activities. On the other hand, annual meetings of high level officials shall be held, aiming, among other purposes, at setting the cooperation priorities for the following period.

This MoU shall be in force for a two-year period, and shall be automatically extended, save if one of the Parties decides not to renew it.

Both the Presidents of NCAH and ANACOM have expressed their belief that this MoU will contribute towards the improvement of the relationship between the two Authorities and, in a wider sense, towards the development and promotion of the communications sector in both countries.

The next high level meeting between the two Authorities, in the framework of this MoU, shall take place in Portugal, following an invitation from ANACOM.
