ECC PT1 - Uppsala

/ Updated on 30.08.2006

Project team PT1 met on 12-14 January in Uppsala, Sweden. PT1 is in charge of all issues concerning the future evolution of IMT-2000 and systems beyond, and co-ordinates European contributions and its positions on spectrum, regulatory and sharing/ compatibility issues in the scope of WP8F of the Radiocommunications Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R). Noteworthy is this group?s responsibility for preparing the CEPT positions on items 1.4 and 1.9 of the next World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC07).

The meeting?s most discussed issue concerned the comments received from the consultation undertaken by the working group on Frequency Management (WG FM), on the ECC draft decision ?Harmonised Spectrum Use for IMT-2000/ UMTS Systems Operating in the 2500-2690 MHz Band?.

This decision was drafted following the European Commission request under the Fifth Mandate on ?Harmonisation of Frequency Use in the 2500-2690 MHz Additional Band to be Made Available in Europe to IMT-2000/ UMTS Systems?.

The comments received in this consultation centre on the possibility of being able to introduce other ?non-IMT-2000? technologies in the 2500-2690 MHz band, a position defended solely by the administration from the United Kingdom.

Also debated was the issue of using the 2010-2025 MHz band (currently assigned to UMTS). In reply to the European Commission?s request for information on the current use of this band, PT1 confirmed that there was no market demand for same, although indicating that there would only be conditions to establish a ? harmonised ? use for other applications at the end of the current year.

Lastly, the European positions on items 1.4 and 1.9 of the WRC07 agenda were reviewed and brought up to date.
