ECC TG3 - Copenhagen

/ Updated on 17.07.2006

The sixth meeting of the group ECC TG3 - UWB was held on 10-14 January in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group?s main mission is to prepare the CEPT response to all aspects of the European mandate on the harmonisation of spectrum usage by ultra wide band (UWB) systems in Europe.

The group studied all comments resulting from the public consultation on the Draft ECC Report 64, Draft ECC Report on the Protection Requirements of Radiocommunication Systems below 10.6 GHz from Generic UWB Applications, submitted between October and December of last year for consideration by the working group on Spectrum Engineering (WG SE). Some modifications were made to the said draft report, to submit for approval to the next WG SE meeting in late January.

The response to the European Commission?s mandate to CEPT, with the aim of harmonising radio spectrum usage by UWB systems in the European Union, should be finalised by March. Various ideas were considered at this meeting, in order to settle on the best way to introduce UWB in Europe, bearing in mind that the results of draft ECC Report 64, with the assumed pretexts, make it hard to introduce UWB applications in the European space.

A parallel campaign involving measures is to run from January to March 2005, to evaluate interference caused by UWB in some radio services. The results may be compared to the draft ECC Report?s compatibility studies.
