4.4 million bundled service subscribers
In the first quarter of 2022 (1Q2022), the number of service bundle subscribers was 4.4 million (+142 thousand or +3.3% than in the same quarter of the previous year). This is the lowest annual growth recorded since the collection of these indicators began (2011). This growth is mainly associated with 4/5P offers (+138 thousand or +6.4%).
4/5P offers were the most used
4/5P offers were the most used, with 2.3 million subscribers (52.1% of total bundled offer subscribers), followed by 3P offers, with 1.7 million subscribers (38.5%). The percentage growth of 4/5P offers (6.4%) was the highest since the beginning of 2020.
Stand-alone offers represented 72.0% of mobile accesses and 15.3% of fixed accesses
Stand-alone, single play of 1P offers, which are characterised by not being provided as part of a bundle, represented 72.0% of mobile accesses and 15.3% of fixed accesses.
Regarding the total of fixed and mobile accesses, the majority (56.3%) were single play mobile accesses, followed by bundled mobile accesses (21.9%), bundled fixed accesses (18.4%) and, finally, single play fixed accesses (3.3%).
Bundled revenue up 3.4% and unit revenue remains unchanged
Between January and March 2022, revenues from bundled services were around EUR 458 million (50.6% of total retail revenues), up 3.4% year-on-year. Revenues from 4/5P offers represented 64.4% of total bundled revenues.
The average monthly revenue per package subscriber was EUR 34.63 (excluding VAT), a similar value to the same quarter last year. The average monthly revenue was EUR 43.07 for 4/5P offers and EUR 27.51 for 3P offers (-0.5% in both cases).
By the end of 1Q2022, MEO was the provider with the highest share of bundled services subscribers (40.8%), followed by the NOS Group (35.8%), Vodafone (20.1%) and NOWO (3.1%). Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, Vodafone and MEO increased their share of subscribers (+0.7 p.p. and +0.1 p.p., respectively), while the NOS Group (-0.5 p.p.) and NOWO (-0.3 p.p.) shares decreased.
Per type of offer, MEO presented the highest share of subscribers for 2P offers (43.6%), 3P (39.0%) and, as of the quarter under analysis, 4/5P offers (41.7%).
On the other hand, MEO also presented the highest share of bundled service revenues (41.3%), followed by the NOS Group (40.0%), Vodafone (16.8%) and NOWO (1.9%). In comparison to the same period of the previous year, MEO and Vodafone increased their share of revenues by 0.2 p.p. and 0.1 p.p., respectively, as opposed to the reduction noted in NOWO (-0.3 p.p.) and the NOS Group (-0.1 p.p.).
The level of concentration, measured by the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, remained high in comparison with the previous quarter. The 4/5P offers are those that recorded the highest level of concentration. The current trend towards lower concentration began in 2013, with the launch of Vodafone's triple play offer supported on FTTH. Overall, the level of concentration has not changed significantly since the beginning of 2018, except for the 4/5P offers where there has been a downward trend.
