World Post Day 2019


World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 9th, the anniversary of the establishment of the UPU (Universal Postal Union).

In Portugal, World Post Day was marked with a commemorative ceremony organized by FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation) at its premises. The event was attended by João Miguel Coelho, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of ANACOM, Teresa Salema, Chair of the FPC's Executive Committee, and João Bento, Chair of the Executive Committee of CTT – Correios de Portugal and Director of FPC.

The awards of 2019 best letter competition were given at this session which also held the launch of the commemorative issue of the “500 Years of the Post Office 2019”.

The ceremony ended with the inauguration of the exhibitions ''Dona Maria II https://www.fpc.pt/pt/selos-d-maria-ii/'' and ''500 Anos do Correio em Portugal https://www.fpc.pt/pt/dia-mundial-dos-correios-2019/'' 500 Years of the Post Office in Portugal, both of which are part of the postal route of the permanent exhibition ''Vencer a Distância – Cinco Séculos de Comunicações em Portugal'' Overcoming Distance - Five Centuries of Communications in Portugal, and, later the exhibition ''A Cor dos Selos https://www.fpc.pt/exhibition/a-cor-dos-selos-de-joao-machado/'' The Colour of Stamps, by João Machado, was inaugurated in the FPC's Central Gallery.

ANACOM also showed a video about the services that CTT, universal postal service provider, has to offer at the home of people who are more than 10 km from a postal establishment.
