ECTA Annual Regulatory Conference

The ECTA Annual Regulatory Conference was held on 16-18 November in Brussels. Fátima Barros participated on 18 November as keynote speaker, giving a speech on 4.0 regulation that considers the growing complexity of new market conditions (such as new players and business models), as well as the respective role BEREC should play, above all an active role promoting competition and consistent regulation of the market.

Also discussed were issues concerning connectivity, harmonisation and fair conditions for all market players.

Barros was also present in the session on “The sheriffs of the Digital Single Market: what regulator(s) and decision-making process?”, during which she discussed eventual changes in form and substance to consider in BEREC’s institutional arrangement, concluding that regardless of the powers and characteristics it may have in the future, BEREC will continue to be an independent guarantee of a fair electronic communications market.
