8th Meeting of the ANACOM-ANATEL Coordination Committee

The 8th Meeting of the ANACOM-ANATEL Coordination Committee (the Brazilian regulatory authority for the telecommunications sector) was held on the 11th and 12th of November, at the Portuguese Communications Foundation facilities, in Lisbon.

On the first day of the meeting, the discussion focused on subject matters such as the structural reorganization of both regulatory authorities, the relevant regulatory measures adopted since the 7th meeting of the Committee, held in 2003, and the impact on regulation of technological convergence.

On the second and last day, the discussion centred in issues such as broadband access, mobile services, analysis and definition of relevant markets and checking service quality of Internet access. In the scope of international cooperation, the preparation of the III Telecommunications Technical Meeting of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa - CPLP), which will take place this week, from the 15th to 17th November, in Lisbon, was also considered, as well as the framework of the relationships between Europe/Latin America, and the participation in international fora, both at the level of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and of the CPLP.

The next meeting of the Coordination Committee will be held in Brazil, in 2005.
