Population exposure to electromagnetic fields - basic restrictions and reference levels in Administrative Rule

Administrative Rule no. 1421/2004 has been already published, establishing basic restrictions and level references on exposure of the population to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz).

This statutory instrument develops the provisions of Decree-Law no. 11/2003, of 18 January, pursuant to which the proposal made by the interministerial working group, appointed by the joint order no. 8/2003, of 7 January, was accepted, as far as the establishment of such restrictions and reference levels is concerned, within the scope of the adoption of the Council Recommendation 1999/519/EC, of 12 July 1999.

Assuming the need to protect public health against the proven harmful effects of the exposure to electromagnetic fields, the basic restrictions were adopted and reference levels were determined, based on currently available scientific data and guidelines. Thus, the evolution of technology and scientific knowledge on this subject shall be duly taken into consideration for a potential review of levels set up for now.
