Informative leaflet on Portability

?My number always follows me?.

Hold on to your telephone number.

Get to know portability.

Can I switch operator without giving up my telephone number?

Yes you can, with portability. This functionality allows consumers to switch operator but still keep their old telephone number. The number is exactly the same, with the same nine digits. The only difference is that it will now be associated with the new operator.

This option is valid for both fixed and mobile numbers. When you change mobile operator, your whole number goes with you. When you change fixed operator, you can keep your number as long as you haven?t moved to another geographic area.

How can I ask for portability?

How long does it take?

To have your number ported you should submit a request with the operator you want to switch to, which will then be responsible for the process.

If you ask for your number to be ported you must accept the responsibility of having your service interrupted for a maximum of three hours.

But the time that elapses from the moment you submit your request to the conclusion of the process can vary. For this reason it is vital that you ask for clarification from your new operator.

What problems can arise?

- If you have an arrangement to stay with your current operator, you should pay arrears which may exist.

- At the moment you request portability you should have your identification documents with you. You have to identify yourself even if you are a customer of a pre-paid service.

- If you switch mobile service operator, you will no longer be able to make calls with your initial card, even if it has an available balance on the date the number is ported.

Do I have to pay for portability?

To transfer your number you do not have to pay anything to the network provider you are leaving. However, the new provider may charge you for the activation of portability.

Do people who call me start paying a different price?

It depends. People who call you may pay either the same, more or less than before. The charge varies depending on the network of the caller and its respective price table.

Fixed and mobile operators whose price tables may imply an increased charge for calls to ported numbers are obliged to provide a telephone information service on call prices.

Can people who call me know that my number has been ported?

Yes. A free audio message is played at the start of each call to a ported mobile number, identifying the network to which the number has been transferred. This message  is only heard on  calls between mobile numbers. But those who  don?t want to hear it  can always ask the respective mobile operator to remove it, which is also free of charge.
