Study Group 2 meeting - Geneva

Study Group 2 of the ITU Telecommunications Standardisation Sector (ITU-T) met last 16-24 November at the ITU offices in Geneva. The group is mainly responsible for definition of services, numbering management, analysis of routing solutions and overall mobility.

The most notable results of the gathering were:

  • Approval of a recommendation for harmonisation of a single international short number that children can access in emergency situations (E.1100);
  • Approval of a recommendation containing terms and definitions of identifiers used in ITU standardisation sector recommendations (E.101);
  • Approval of various changes and recommendations associated to the international numbering plan (E.164, E.129).

Work also began on various items with a view to new recommendations, notably on the establishment of requisites and the determination of mechanisms for civil defence citizen warnings (cell broadcast).

Plans call for this study group to next meet in November 2010, preceded by a workshop on the future of numbering.
