3rd Meeting of Working Party 5C of Study Group 5 - Geneva

The third meeting in the 2008-2011 study cycle of working party 5C (WP 5C) of ITU-R study group 5, which covers issues associated to fixed wireless systems and other systems operating in frequency bands below 30 MHz in the scope of fixed and mobile terrestrial services, was held last 18-27 May in Geneva.

The 83 documents submitted for WP 5C consideration were spread among five subgroups, according to the nature of the subject matter:

  • Subgroup 5C-1 - issues associated to systems operating in frequencies below 30 MHz;
  • Subgroup 5C-2 - issues associated to systems operating in frequencies between 30 MHz and 18 GHz;
  • Subgroup 5C-3 - issues associated to systems operating in frequencies above 18 GHz;
  • Ad Hoc Recommendations Subgroup - issues associated to the updating of recommendations;
  • Ad Hoc Plenary Subgroup - issues not covered by the other subgroups.

Analysis of the documentation in question led to the production of 28 new documents. Four of these will be submitted to SG 5 consideration for approval, specifically:

- document SG5-146 proposing the revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.1249 on ''Technical and Operational Requirements to Use in Studies on Spectrum Sharing in the 25.25-27.50 GHz frequency band between point-point fixed service systems and inter-satellites service'';

- document SG5-149 proposing the revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.1509 on ''Technical and Operational Requirements to Use in Studies on Spectrum Sharing in the 25.25-25.70 GHz frequency band between point-multipoint fixed service systems and inter-satellites service'';

- document SG5-147 proposing updates for various Series F Recommendations, namely the addition of an introduction to Recommendations ITU-R F.748, F.749, F.1404 and F.1671, and overall text revision of addition of introduction to Recommendations ITU-R F.635, F.1494, F.1498 and F.1605;

- document SG5-148 proposing the withdrawal of three Series F Recommendations (ITU-R F.759, F.760 and F.1405).

The remaining 24 documents still need to be developed and will therefore be examined at the next WP 5C meeting. Of these, the following stand out:

- document WP5C-TEMP/122 proposing the revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.758 on ''System Parameters and Considerations for the Development of Criteria for Spectrum Sharing or Compatibility between Digital Fixed Wireless Systems (in Fixed Service) and Systems from Other Services and Other Sources of Interference'';

- document WP5C-TEMP/95 proposing the revision of Report ITU-R F.2106 on ''Fixed Service Applications of Free Space Optical Transmission Systems (FSOL) above 3000 GHz, respective characteristics and technical aspects'';

- document WP5C-TEMP/110 proposing the revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.1336 on ''Reference Radiation Diagrams of Omnidirectional Antennas, Sectorial or Otherwise, for Point-Multipoint Systems to Use in Studies on Spectrum Sharing between the 1 GHz and 70 GHz Frequency Bands''.
