European Regulators Group meeting - Prague

The 29th meeting of the European Regulators Group (ERG) was held last 28-29 May in Prague.

The ERG finished the debate on the latest developments in next generation access (NGA) networks in Europe with approval of the report on “NGA – Economic Analysis and Regulatory Principles”, besides approving two reports on co-operation with the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG), to wit: the “Report on Transitional Spectrum Issues” and the “Report on Radio Spectrum Competition Issues”.

The Group also considered the action plan for VoIP and international roaming. Noteworthy regarding the latter is the placement in public consultation until 17 June 2009 of a proposal to update the currently valid ERG guidelines. This proposal takes into account the most recent changes to the European roaming regulation, which is due to take effect this coming 1 July.

Note also that the ERG debated the report on price consistency in the upstream broadband markets and published a snapshot on mobile termination rates (MTR), which analyses the period from July 2008 to January 2009.

All the documents mentioned, as well as a statement on the digital dividend, were approved for publication and have been posted on the ERG’s website.
