23rd Congress of UPU in Romania

Romania will be hosting the 23^rd Congress of Universal Postal Union (UPU), after Beijing
(China) having hosted the 22^nd Congress, in 1999.

This decision has been taken after Ivory Coast had given up the organization of the Congress, due to the country?s current political situation.

Romania, one of UPU founder countries, will be welcoming this important world meeting at the Palace of Parliament, which will take place between the end of September and the beginning of October 2004.

This decision is of special importance since Romania is about to join the European Union. Furthermore, it is the first time the UPU Congress is being hosted in Eastern Europe.
