WTPF-09 - second day of proceedings

On 23 April, proceedings of the World Telecommunication Policy Forum (WTPF-09) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) entered their second day in Lisbon, in an event which brings together sectoral representatives and delegates from 191 Member States of the ITU. The proceedings advanced in four groups created by the Forum, which met in sequence.

Working group (WG) 1, dedicated to Convergence, including matters of public policy related to Internet, discussed the drafts of Opinion One (Internet-related public policy matters) and five (Capacity building in support of the adoption of IPV6). Meanwhile, with respect to Next Generation Networks, WG2 focused on the drafts of Opinion two (The implications of the advent of NGNs and advanced broadband access).

Working Group 3, addressing emerging issues related to telecommunications policy and regulation, discussed the drafts of following Opinions: three (ICT and the environment) and four (Collaborative strategies for creating confidence and security in the use of ICTs). Dedicated to International Telecommunication Regulation (ITR), WG4 worked on the draft of Opinion six (International Telecommunication Regulations - ITRs).

The activity of the four groups was very satisfactory, and the Opinions, which had been previously prepared as part of the Informal Group of Experts, were both improved and updated with relevant information. During today's proceedings, the final text of the opinions will adopted in plenary session and along with the report of the WTPF-09 Chair.
