Following a meeting on April 7 with Daniel Pataki, chairman of the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG), the Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding, highlighted the importance of the digital dividend for stimulating growth and competition in the telecommunications markets of Europe, as well as the key role to be played in the coming months by regulatory authorities, transforming the digital dividend into a reality which benefits Europe's economy and citizens.

The Commissioner also reported that the European Commission is working closely with the European Parliament on an ambitious roadmap that will allow Europe to derive benefit from the digital dividend as quickly as possible.

The digital dividend refers to the spectrum of frequencies that will become available with the transition from analogue to digital television, which is expected to be concluded by 2012.
