Use of geographic numbers on private multi-site networks - Clarification

As a result of a request for clarification related to the use of geographic numbering on private multi-site networks, especially in scenarios of migration to IP technology with a reduction in the number of interfaces with the public network, ANACOM takes the position that it should clarify that in addition to geographic numbers corresponding to these interfaces - network termination points (NTP) -, other geographic numbers may be used, provided that, the conditions governing the use of these geographic numbers is ensured by the network operator that provides public access. This implies (i) having the ability, through an appropriate technique (e.g. IPSec tunnelling), to control the location where the calls on these numbers are originated (and delivered) and (ii) validate proper correspondence between this location and the address associated with the geographic number or numbers on each of the physical points of NTR meanwhile eliminated.

Alternatively nomadic use numbering could be used, allowing even greater flexibility in the mobility of people.
