Online Knowledge Library - Cooperation with Cape Verde

ANACOM's vice-chairman, Alberto Souto de Miranda, has today concluded with the University of Cape Verde, together with UMIC - Knowledge Society Agency and FCCN - Foundation for National Scientific Computing, a protocol of cooperation on access to the Online Knowledge Library (b-on). The library has been functioning in Portugal since 2004 under the responsibility of UMIC, with technical and operational management provided by FCCN.

Under this protocol, teachers, researchers and students of the University of Cape Verde will have access to the full texts of scientific publications from a selected group of international publishers (Cambridge Press, Oxford Press, Sage, Taylor & Francis). The protocol will provide significant improvement to the working conditions of the University's academic and scientific community.

Under the protocol, FCCN has negotiated an agreement with the publishers indicated by the University of Cape Verde to extend the availability of content through b-on with favourable financial conditions. As part of the cooperation programme, ANACOM is subsidising the increases in publisher subscription costs in 2009 arising as a result of the expanded availability of content to the University of Cape Verde.
