Meeting of the Working Group ECC TG3 of Electronic Communications Committee - Stockholm

At the invitation of the Swedish regulator, PTS, Stockholm hosted last 30 September-1 October the 24th and last meeting of working group ECC TG3 - UWB (Ultra Wide Band), which is mandated to produce regulatory solutions for devices using UWB technology in bands below 10.6 GHz. The gathering was chaired by Emmanuel Faussurier.

The LDC (low duty cycle) mitigation technique is defined in decision ECC/DEC/(06)12 and contains the technical conditions that allow operation of UWB LDC devices in the 3.4-4.8 GHz band. This decision was revised at the last TG3 meeting and now includes the LDC mitigation technique in the 3.1-3.4 GHz band, as well as the DAA (detect and avoid) mitigation technique in the 3.1-4.8 GHz and 8.5-9 GHz band. At its 20th meeting, held in Kristiansand last 23-27 June, the ECC adopted for public consultation, until 8 September 2008, this proposal to revise Decision ECC/DEC/(06)12; 16 comments were received. The proposed revision of Decision ECC/DEC/(06)12 ''on Supplementary Regulatory Provisions to Decision ECC/DEC/(06)04 for UWB Devices Using Mitigation Techniques'' was revised and will be sent for final adoption to the next meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC), scheduled for 27-31 October 2008.

The October 2008 meeting of the Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC) should discuss the fourth European Commission mandate for CEPT concerning UWB technology, in which CEPT is asked to draw up a Report A by this coming 1 December, with all technical parameters needed to revise Decision 2007/131/EC. TG3 has produced a report responding to the fourth EC mandate, with information on generic UWB devices.
