EC public consultation on next generation networks


The European Commission (EC) launched a public consultation yesterday in order to establish a harmonised regulatory framework for next generation networks (NGN), to encourage operators to invest in this type networks, particularly in new fibre optic networks. Following this consultation the Commission intends to submit a Recommendation in 2009 to enable Member States to implement consistent legal frameworks which maximise benefits and minimise costs related to the regulation of NGNs at a European level.
