European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - ANACOM presides CEPT


Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) will hold the presidency of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) as from the 1st of October. José Saraiva Mendes, ANACOM's deputy chairman, will be the chairman of this organization until September 2003.

CEPT is a European Forum involved in discussing and cooperating in the regulation of the communications sector, established in 1959 and composed of representatives from 44 countries.

ANACOM, during the Portuguese mandate, will be engaged in negotiating agreements to be executed with other organizations, namely with the European Commission, representing CEPT in those organizations and jointly discussing issues of political nature as well as in the involvement of CEPT in the preparation of the World Summit on Information Society, among other issues.
