ECC PT SE 42 - Copenhagen

The 14th meeting of project team 42 (PT 42) of the Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE) was held last 11-12 June in Copenhagen, chaired by Stephen Bond of Ofcom (United Kingdom).

PT 42 covers technical issues associated to the introduction of flexible spectrum use in the so-called flexible bands (862-860 MHz, 1785-1805 MHz and 56-59 GHz were the bands originally identified by the Frequency Management working group (WG FM), and the Wireless Access Policy for Electronic Communications Service (WAPECS) (470-862 MHz, 880-915 MHz/925-960 MHz, 1710-1785 MHz/1805-1880 MHz, 1900-1980 MHz/2010-2025 MHz/2110-2170 MHz, 2.5-2.69 GHz and 3.4-3.8 GHz). The response to the European Commission's WAPECS Mandate was submitted in December 2007 (CEPT Report 19) and later submitted to public consultation in accordance with CEPT procedures.

The meeting saw the presentation of work concerning the study of interference between terminal stations in the 2.6 GHz band and its impact on the respective block edge mask in CEPT Report 19. It was emphasised that some points must still be resolved and that the work will have to be completed by the next WG SE meeting in the second week of September.

Regarding the Digital Dividend, a number of points concerning the new EC mandate were debated and explained. The group also decided how to organise the work, identifying the different study scenarios. As it will not be possible to finish the work during regular PT SE 42 meetings, a working subgroup was set up, headed by Bruno Espinosa of the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR), which will basically work by correspondence.

The next meeting has been scheduled for the first week of September, with the goal of finalising the document on the study of interference between terminal stations, besides moving forward with the work concerning the second EC Mandate on the Digital Dividend.
