Study Group 2 of the ITU Telecommunications Standardisation Sector (ITU-T) met last 6-15 May in Geneva. This group carries out studies to define services, numbering, routing and global mobility.
The following recommendations were approved at this meeting:
- E.212, including the annexes A, B, C and D - which includes definition of the international plan for identifying public networks and subscriptions, as well as allocation criteria in distinct international solutions;
- Addendum to E.123 - which specifies the kinds of notifications used in telephone, email and web addresses;
- Supplement 5 to E.164 - which includes the guide concerning the selection of children's aid numbers;
- Interim ENUM procedure - referring to the registry of domains based on the E.164 country codes.
Approval processes also began for the following recommendations:
- E.161.1 - guide for emergency number selection in a public telecommunications network;
- E.101 - term definitions used for identifiers (numbers, names, addresses and other identifiers) for public telecommunications services;
- E.157 - specifies the international use of identification information regarding the call originator;
- Addendum 1 to E.164.1 - Criteria and procedures for the reservation, allocation and recovery of E.164 Country Codes;
- Annexes E, F and G of E.212 - which includes examples of use and transition rules in case of newly created countries;
- E.800 - contains the terms and definitions associated to quality of service.
The next meeting of this working group will be in September 2008 (lasting half a day), to accept the recommendations that now begin the approval process. A full meeting is also planned (with all the working groups) for March 2009.
