1st Meeting of Working Party 5C of Study Group 5 - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 5-14 February the first meeting of work party 5C (WP 5C) on fixed wireless systems (FWS) and HF systems in the context of fixed and land mobile services, of Study Group 5 (SG 5), which covers issues involving terrestrial services.

The 55 documents submitted for WP 5C consideration were distributed among five subgroups, according to the respective subject matter:

  • Subgroup 5C-1 - issues concerning spectrum below 30 MHz ( ≤ 30 MHz);
  • Subgroup 5C-2 - issues concerning spectrum between 30 MHz and 18 GHz;
  • Subgroup 5C-3 - issues concerning spectrum above 18 GHz ( ≥ 18 GHz);
  • Ad Hoc Vocabulary Group - issues concerning the list of abbreviations, terms and acronyms;
  • Ad Hoc Revision Group - issues concerning the editorial revision of Recommendations/Questions.

Of the documents examined, the following merit special attention:

  • Revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.758 on principles for the development of criteria for spectrum sharing or compatibility between digital fixed wireless systems (in fixed service) and systems from other services and other sources of interference;
  • Revision of Recommendation ITU-R F.1336 concerning typical radiation diagrams for omnidirectional, sectorial or other antennas in point-multipoint systems, to be used in spectrum sharing studies between the 1 GHz and 70 GHz bands;
  • Working document on spectrum harmonisation in terrestrial Electronic News Gathering (ENG) systems, an issue covered by Item 1.5 of the 2011 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) agenda (Resolution 954 of WRC-2007).

As this was the first WP 5C meeting after WRC-2007, the documents passed on from the previous study period (2004-2007) as well as the new contributions lacked more thorough studies. For this reason, only the documents impacting the activity of other work parties will be submitted to the consideration of SG 5.
