ECC TG3 - Berlin

The 22nd meeting of working group WCC TG3 - UWB (Ultra Wide Band) was held last 18-20 February in Berlin. The group is charged with developing regulatory solutions for devices that use UWB technology in bands below 10.6 GHz.

The meeting saw finalisation of the report containing the technical requirements that define the DAA (Detect and Avoid) mitigation technique in the 3.1-4.2 GHz and 8.5-9 GHz bands (Draft ECC Report on Technical Requirements for UWB DAA Devices in the Bands 3.1-4.2 GHz and 8.5-9 GHz), which will be submitted to the next meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) in March 2008, to be adopted for public consultation. Note that the technical parameters set out in the report do not by themselves guarantee protection of the affected radiocommunication services. To validate the DAA technique the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) will thus have to determine suitable ?measurement procedures?.

Still under study is the possible extension of the LDC (Low Duty Cycle) technique, as defined in Decision ECC/DEC/(06)12, to the 3.1-3.4 GHz band. An ?internal? report is being produced on this subject. A measurement campaign is also to be conducted in February 2008 among such devices and military radars in the 3.1-3.4 GHz band. The revision of Decision ECC/DEC/(06)12 should be completed at the next TG3 meeting in May 2008.

Note also completion of the CEPT report to the European Commission (EC) in reply to a request by the Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC) on generic UWB devices and specific UWB devices. A table was attached that describes in detail the changes made or which are expected to carry out Decisions ECC/DEC/(06)04 and ECC/DEC/(06)12 and that impact Decision 2007/131/EC of the Commission.
