ECC PT9 - Stockholm


The fifth meeting of project team 9 (PT 9) of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) was held last 26-27 September in Stockholm.

The following stand out among the topics considered:

  • Matters associated to the International Maritime Organisation, specifically a preview of the COMSAR-12 IMO meeting to be held in April 2008 and questions about correct use of the DSC (digital selective calling) system;

  • Licensing needs for maritime equipment;

  • Monitoring the work of working group 8B of the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R);

  • Orientation proposal presented on the certification of ship station operators of the short range certificate (SRC) and long range certificate (LRC) type, in the scope of the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS), within CEPT;

  • Evaluation of community directives in the scope of the group's activities, specifically the R&TTE Directive and Directive 2001/25/EC;

  • Monitoring of the study on GSM on board vessels.

This meeting is expected to be the group's last as such, should the ECC at its next meeting decide to include it in one of the existing working groups: Frequency Management working group (WG FM) or Regulatory Affairs working group (WG RA).
