WP8A - Geneva

Working party 8A, which covers issues involving land mobile service (excluding IMT-2000) and amateur and amateur-satellite services, met in Geneva last 12-20 June.

The meeting saw finalisation of the ''Handbook on the Amateur and Amateur-Satellite Services'', which was approved and forwarded to Study Group 8 (SG8), which handles issues concerning mobile, radiodetermination, amateur and amateur-satellite services. WP8A accepted that the recommendations ITU-R M.1041, 1042, 1043, 1044, 1544, 1677, 1732 and 1740 should be kept, as well as the report ITU-R M.2085; the withdrawal of recommendation ITU-R M.1451 was approved.

Also approved was the document on ''Harmonised Frequency Channel Plan for Broadband Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) Operations at 4940-4990 MHz''. This proposed recommendation, which indicates the plans for harmonised frequency channels in the 4940-4990 MHz band for broadband protection and disaster relief radiocommunications, was approved and sent to SG8. Also drawn up was the document ''Draft New Report - Software defined radio in the mobile, radiodetermination, amateur and related satellite services'', which was approved and forwarded to SG8, while 24 items assigned to WP8A were also revised, concerning amateur service and various aspects of land mobile service (excluding IMT-2000). To streamline the work within SG8, a proposal was made to cut the number of items for the following study period (after WRC-07), removing some of them and consolidating others.
