ECC WG SE - Budapest

Budapest hosted last 3-7 September the 48th meeting of the Spectrum Engineering Group (WG SE), attended by 49 participants, including observers from the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the Commission on Radio Astronomy Frequencies (CRAF), the operator Iridium Satellite LLC, the Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA) and Bosch.

Highlights include the final approval of various documents, among them revision of the report on the introduction of TETRA TEDS (TETRA enhanced data service) - ECC Report 99, revision of the report on the introduction of BWA applications in 3.4-3.8 GHz - ECC Report 100, the report on the introduction of ITS (intelligent transport systems) in 63 GHz, the report on the introduction of GBSAR (ground-based polarimetric synthetic aperture radar) in 17.1-17.3 GHz and also the report on the combined effects of the new systems planned for the 5 GHz band (ITS, BBDR - broadband disaster recovery - and BFWA - broadband fixed wireless access) in current systems/services. Also approved for public consultation was the report on the introduction of earth exploration satellite service (EESS) in the 8025-8400 MHz frequency band.

Regarding the introduction of GSM on board vessels, the PT SE7 group is drawing up the report, as requested at the last meeting. Note also that PT SE21 has been mandated to draw up a report on propagation models for mobile services in frequencies above 3 GHz, to be implemented in the Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT).

Lastly, a proposed CEPT report was presented and debated, responding to the European Commission mandate on WAPECS, which will be sent to the Commission by December 2007.
