Summary: This study, made by Deloitte in cooperation with Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and DLA Piper, within the scope of the European Commission’s “Safer Internet Plus” programme, contains the comparative analysis of the main characteristics of thirty content filtering software products on the market. The study concludes that the current products are able to filter potentially harmful contents without hindering children’s and youngsters’ Internet access quality. However, difficulties still remain in filtering less explicit contents, and the industry should start taking into account the considerations expressed by parents and teachers.

This study involved one hundred parents and teachers of different languages, who participated in five thousand tests, classifying products based on criteria that simulated the worries that are common to the average of the European countries.
