1st Meeting ECC WG FM PT45 - Mainz

/ Updated on 16.02.2007

The German city of Mainz hosted last 17-19 January the first meeting of project team FM PT45, whose aim is to produce a CEPT draft report in reply to the European Commission Mandate on harmonisation of the 1452-1479.5 MHz band in the European Union, to enable its flexible use by mobile multimedia technologies.

Agreement was reached at the meeting that it was not necessary to rework the 1452-1479.5 MHz band, as it was deemed that any future use of that band should be based on the 2002 Maastricht Agreement (MA02), which should be maintained. However, to facilitate the introduction of mobile multimedia systems, the group agreed on the need to create additional provisions to be covered by means of an addition to MA02.

Parallel to this, the group was also charged with revising Agreement WI95revMA02 on terrestrial digital audio broadcasting (T-DAB) in VHF, so as to revoke the relevant parts concerning the 174-230 MHz band (band III), since same are covered by the new 2006 Geneva Agreement (GE06). To that end a decision was made to hold a multilateral CEPT meeting, in liaison with the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) meeting scheduled for 2-6 July 2007 in Romania.
