CPG - Gdansk

The sixth meeting of the CPG-07 group, the CEPT working group whose mission is to prepare for the upcoming 2007 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-07), was held in the Polish city of Gdansk last 11-14 July.

Besides revising and approving the briefs on all the WRC-07 agenda points, which contain the principles and technical grounds to prepare the preliminary positions on each specific topic, the preparation of European common proposals (ECPs) was continued. Once approved, they will be presented by a European administration on behalf of CEPT, as European contributions to WRC-07.

The new co-ordinator for item 1.9 was appointed, Jean-Phillipe Millet of France, given that Wassim Chourbaij, also of France, was unable to continue assuring said co-ordination.

Bearing in mind the system of rotation among the various ITU Regions, WRC-07 should be chaired by a representative of Region B (Europe). As the necessary and sufficient quorum for the election process was present, as per the current rules of procedure, the meeting voted to choose one of the two known candidates: Chris van Diepenbeek (the Netherlands) and Mike Goddard (United Kingdom). Some 26 administrations were present, while three other administrations delegated their votes to one of the attending administrations. The vote resulted in the van Diepenbeek?s election as the Region B candidate.

The meeting was attended by representatives of administrations and operators recognised by CEPT and observers from the ITU Radiocommunications Department (BR), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO), the European Space Agency (ESA), EUMETSAT, EUROCONTROL, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the Regional Commonwealth Countries (RCC), Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The next CPG meeting will be held from 30 January to 2 February 2007 in Ireland.
