WG NNA - Lisbon

Lisbon hosted on 20-21 September 2006 the seventh meeting of the Numbering, Names and Addressing group (WG NNA) of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC).

WG NNA is a working group mainly composed of regulators from the expanded Europe, although participation is also open to other entities such as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and the European Commission (EC). The group handles numbering matters, especially with regard to the assignment and management of such resources, with a view to exchanging information and positions. Recommendations, reports and decisions are also prepared for future ECC approval, concerning subjects of common interest for Europe.

Among the matters discussed at this meeting was approval of the ECC final report on ?The Future of E.164 Numbering Plans and Allocation Arrangements? and the ?Report on Consumer Abuses and Fraud Issues to High Tariff Services?. Also adopted was the Recommendation on the ?Principles Related to Numbering Plans for SMS Codes?, which proposes a number of measures to be taken by the various countries? regulators, basically concerning consumer protection.

Lastly, work continued on the use of harmonised European short code (116) for the provision of public interest services ? the subject of ECC Report no. 70 (?Services Based on HESC ? Harmonised European Short Code?). This is being done parallel to the work undertaken at Communications Committee (COCOM) level.
