/ Updated on 31.07.2006

The 42nd meeting of the Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE) was held on 3-7 October 2005 in Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic.

Highlights of the meeting included the approval of various documents, among them the report on the study of short range device (SRD) compatibility in the audio broadcasting service (FM) band, as well as a Recommendation on the introduction of fixed service in the 71.0 76.0 GHz and 81.0 86.0 GHz bands.

Also approved for public consultation were, among others, the Report on the study of point-multipoint fixed wireless access (FWA) technology co-existence in the 3.4-3.6 GHz band, as well as a Recommendation containing guidelines for FWA implementation in the said frequencies.

Two new tasks were also created, namely one to study the introduction of ITS - Intelligent Transportation System - Road Transport and Traffic Telematics (RTTT) in 5 GHz, specifically 5875-5925 MHz, with the following services: radio localisation, fixed service and fixed satellite service; and another to study the possibility of sharing the satellite mobile systems of Globalstar (CDMA) and IRIDIUM (TDMA) in the 1618.25 1621.35 MHz band.

Lastly, noteworthy was the presentation of results from a survey of Administrations conducted by the JPT BFWA working group, which indicate greater spectrum availability in the 3.4-3.6 GHz band and advise that a CEPT Decision should be produced to implement fixed wireless access (FWA) systems in this band. Compatibility studies for the 5 GHz band are also encouraged, before going ahead with development of a CEPT Recommendation.
