ECC WG FM - Koblenz

/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The German city of Koblenz hosted on 26-30 September the 55th meeting of the Frequency Management working group (WG FM).

FM PT 34, responsible for high density applications in fixed service and in fixed service by satellite above 10.7 GHz, informed WG FM that its mandated work had been completed. The working group thus decided to disband same.

Results of the public consultation on Decision ECC/DEC(05)HH on PMR 446 digital systems operating in the 446.1-446.2 bands were presented. After discussion on the editing of the Decision text, agreement was reached on a final version that will be submitted to the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) for adoption.

Also debated at this meeting were results of the public consultation on low power equipment operating in the FM broadcasting bands. Given the manifest opposition to the proposed 50 nW ERP limit for such agreement, it was agreed to lower same to 30 nW ERP as a compromise. Such equipment will be included in Annex 13 of Recommendation ERC/REC 70-03, which will be submitted to the ECC for adoption.

Regarding the 1800-1805 MHz band, previously assigned to TFTS, the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO) is to prepare a questionnaire for the administrations to comment on possible applications for this band. Replies to this questionnaire should be studied at the next meeting of WG FM.

Regarding the 3.5 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands, and following on a questionnaire sent to the administrations to gather information on the use of these bands by Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) systems, it was noted that in the 3.4-3.6 GHz band the degree of availability is high compared to the 3.6-3.8 GHz band. In 5.8 GHz (5725-5875 MHz) it was verified that in most CEPT administrations the subject has yet to progress beyond initial considerations.

The next WG FM meeting is to be held on 23-27 January 2006 in Berne, Switzerland.
