ECC TG3 - Copenhagen

/ Updated on 17.07.2006
The 11th meeting of the ECC TG3-UWB (Ultra Wide Band) working group was held on 12-16 September 2005 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Regarding UWB communication applications, the conclusions were presented of the complementary technical studies carried out between UWB devices and fixed service (FS) and fixed satellite service (FSS). Two mitigation techniques were also adopted, specifically the DAA (detect and avoid) and LDC (low duty cycle) techniques, conclusions of the measures campaigns were presented and the impact analysis report was updated. With these results it was possible to finalise the draft ECC Decision of xx 2006 on the Harmonised Conditions for the Use of UWB Devices below 10.6 GHz, which will be submitted to the ECC meeting to be held in October.

Regarding Specific UWB applications, namely UWB sensors and UWB systems for GPR (ground probing radar)/WPR (wall probing radar) applications, more work must be done to achieve a regulatory solution.

The reply the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) is to send to the European Commission was thus concluded. It concerns the second mandate on UWB, which also includes the development of a regulatory solution for specific UWB applications, and which will be submitted to the said ECC meeting in October. Also prepared were the CEPT positions for the sixth meeting of ITU working group TG1/8.
