The TISPAN (Telecoms & Internet converged Services & Protocols for Advanced Networks) technical committee of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) met in Portoros, Slovenia on 12-16 September 2005. This committee covers all technical aspects related to Next Generation Networks (NGN), such as architecture, signalisation, numbering, services, service quality and management.

TISPAN?s main goal is to finish version 1 of the NGN by the end of the year, which will include important aspects such as emulation of PSTN/ISDN services (Public Switched Telephone Network / Integrated Service Digital Network ? lines) in NGN networks. The basis of the NGN is the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) platform, which will serve as a support for future convergence between the fixed and mobile networks.
