Study Group SG 9 (Fixed service) - Tunis

/ Updated on 10.08.2006

Study Group 9B, which handles issues involving fixed service (FS) - studies and recommendations on radio-frequency planning, characteristics of fixed wireless systems (FWS), interconnection, maintenance and various applications, met on 20-28 April in Tunis.

The work was carried out in five subgroups, responsible for the following theme topics:

- Subgrupo 9B-1 (issues related to broadband fixed wireless access (BWA), interconnection with the IEEE 802.16 groups and the BRAN project of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI));

- Subgroup 9B-2 (general issues related to FS, requirements and future view for FS spectrum);

- Subgroup 9B-3 (use of FWS to support network infrastructure of the International Mobile Telecommunication System - IMT-2000);

- Subgroup 9B-HAPS (issues related to High Altitude Platform Stations - HAPS);

- Subgroup 9B-Spec (issues related to spectrum regulation and its international organisation).

As a result of the work carried out, two draft new recommendations (DNR) were produced, along with four draft revised recommendations (DRR), two draft new reports (DNRep) and one draft new question (DNQ). They will later be submitted to Study Group 9 - at the December 2005 meeting - for consideration and adoption.
The following stand out among the documents produced:

DRR ITU-R F.382
Frequency plans for FWS to use in the 2000 MHz and 4 GHz frequency bands. The revision introduces into the 3700-4200 MHz band a new plan of 28 MHz bandwidth frequencies.

DRR ITU-R F.384
Frequency plans for FWS to use in the 6 GHz frequency band. The revision introduces a new plan of 10 MHz bandwidth frequencies.

DRR ITU-R F.595
Frequency plans for FWS to use in the 18 GHz frequency band. The revision introduces two new plans of 7 MHz and 60 MHz bandwidth frequencies.

DRR ITU-R F.387
Frequency plans for FWS to use in the 11 GHz frequency band. The revision introduces a new plan of 20 MHz bandwidth frequencies.
