ECC TG3 - Helsinki

/ Updated on 17.07.2006

The eighth meeting of the ECC TG3 - UWB (Ultra Wideband) working group was held on 26-29 April in Helsinki, Finland.

TG3 is currently endowed with new reference terms, approved at the March ECC meeting. The group?s work should be completed by October 2005; a priority is to find a regulatory solution for UWB communication applications and for GPR (Ground Probing Radar) and WPR (Wall Probing Radar) visualisation systems. The industry also aims for a regulatory solution for UWB sensor applications, new applications also debated at this TG3 meeting, to be defined by October.

The contributions to send for the fifth meeting of group TG1/8 of SG1 (Study Group 1) of the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunications Sector (ITU-R) were prepared. Noteworthy is the intention to include the future CEPT mask in recommendation SM.[UWB.CHAR] as an alternative to the mask proposed by the United States of America.

In order to develop the regulatory solution for UWB introduction in Europe, impact studies will be carried out based on a PSD (Power Spectral Density) limit of ?55 dBm/MHz for UWB in the band running from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Complementary studies will also be undertaken based on scenarios of co-existence between UWB applications and other radio services. Note that the model for realising the latter studies is still being defined.

Of the four campaigns regarding measures to assess the interference provoked by UWB applications, three have already been completed; the respective results were presented at this meeting.
