/ Updated on 31.08.2006

A co-ordination meeting between Portugal (represented by ANACOM and by CTT-Correios de Portugal) and Spain (Ministry of Development and Correos de España) was held on 4 May in Madrid, where the participants focused on various issues concerning the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (UPAEP) ahead of the Union?s 19th Congress, scheduled for August 2005 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The work basically involved studying the UPAEP Acts and the Technical Co-operation Manual to be presented at the next Congress, which will serve as a guide for drawing up and realising technical co-operation projects. As for studying the Acts, agreement was reached to present various proposals to modify same, which in both country?s opinion will enable the Union to be updated to the current context. Regarding the Technical Co-operation Manual, various modifications were proposed by both countries and are expected to positively contribute to the document?s final version.

A second co-ordination meeting between the two countries is planned for Madrid in June, to continue work on these and other matters.
