London hosted on 22-23 March a meeting of the PT SE 7 group, which is responsible for questions concerning land mobile service; about 30 participants attended.

Highlights of the meeting included debate on various issues, among them the study on the use of land mobile service terminals (GSM, UMTS, among others) on board aircraft.

Situations to take into account in this regard are being debated, along with some key parameters for the said study, specifically: effective gain of land network antennas, propagation model, aircraft fuselage attenuation, admissible noise level values and the calculation method for protection values.

Also noteworthy is an issue the group is considering, which concerns border co-ordination for mobile services. A new method for said co-ordination is in the development phase and involves technologies from different bandwidths and for access method to the environment (Time Division Multiple Access - TDMA, Frequency Division Multiple Access - FDMA and Code Division Multiple Access - CDMA).
