Brussels hosted on 10 November a meeting of the High Level Group on Internet Governance. The meeting basically sought to achieve a common position for the next Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG), scheduled for 23-25 November in Geneva.
The following points stand out from the meeting:
- identification of the need for close co-ordination in order to defend the same position before various bodies;
- receptivity to the Dutch government?s organisation of a workshop on ?European ccTLD governance? in January 2005;
- identification of the WGIG?s need to debate issues related to the organisation/ administration of addressing/ numbering (including the operation of ?root servers?), internationalisation of internet governance, stability, strength and safety of the internet network (including spam);
- identification of the next steps, which will include the need to debate internet internationalisation and to identify issues that should not be discussed (?negative priorities?.
