“Voice Over IP: challenges and opportunities for the regulators and the industry” is the subject of a symposium which will be held in Brussels, on the 8th of June 2004, at the Conference Centre Albert Borschette, in a partnership between the European Commission’s Information Society Directorate-General (DG INFSO) and the Japanese Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Post & Telecommunications – MPHPT, as the result of the approval of the European Union – Japan Action Plan, endorsed at the Summit between these two partners in December 2001.

This symposium, which context is given by the Action Plan, aims at being a discussion platform on experiences, case studies and best practice within VoIP, allowing also for an approach of the bilateral EU-Japanese cooperation within the framework of the new information and communication technologies (ICT). So representatives from the DG INFSO (such as the Director-General himself), the Director-General from the MPHPT Telecommunications Bureau as well as scholars and representatives from several companies are expected to attend the symposium.
