Radiocommunication Advisory Group (RAG) - Geneva

/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The Radiocommunication Advisory Group (RAG) of the ITU?s Radiocommunications Sector (ITU-R) met in Geneva from 27 to 31 January, with the proceedings chaired by Canada.

In his opening speech, the ITU secretary general underscored the Union?s current financial difficulties, stressing the need to reduce commitments with respect to human resources and the Union?s activities, and also to effect cuts, namely in the number and length of meetings and in the quantity of paper documents to distribute.

Given the imminence of the upcoming World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC03) in July 2003 and its inherent preparatory work, the meeting?s main goal was to prepare for the next Radiocommunications Assembly (RA03), and to study the decisions adopted during the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP02) held in Marrakech, namely those introducing modifications to the Constitution and the Convention, with incidence in ITU-R, and the financial measures affecting ITU activities.
