/ Updated on 31.08.2006

From 10 to 28 May 2004, the 1st session of the Regional Radiocommunication Conference (RRC-04) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be held in Geneva (Switzerland) for the planning of the digital radio and television terrestrial broadcasting service in the frequency bands 174-230 MHz e 470-862 MHz for parts of Region 1 (Europe and Africa) and Region 3 (Asia and Australia).

The works of the Conference shall be divided into two sessions, the first one being in charge of the preparation of a report for the preparation of the 2nd one, which will probably be held at the beginning of 2006, which will discuss, fundamentally, the technical basis for the planning and format of the Administrations' requirements.

RRC-04 is being prepared in ITU itself at regional European level within the scope of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunication Administrations (CEPT).

In the context of CEPT, European common proposals (ECPs) were approved and submitted to the Conference, with which Portugal associated itself, through ANACOM. However, the Portuguese position is subject to prior agreement with the entities that may possibly be affected by the outcomes of the Conference.
