On 8 august 2023, ANACOM implemented the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2324, of 23 November 2022, amending the Decision 2008/294/EC to include additional access technologies and measures for the operation of mobile communications services on aircraft (MCA services) in the Union.
The Commission Decision 2008/294/EC allowed the operation of mobile communication services on board aircraft (MCA services) in the European Union using GSM, UMTS and LTE technologies and established harmonised technical conditions for MCA services.
The Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2324 provides technical conditions and parameters for the introduction of 5G NR non-AAS (Active Antenna System) systems in the 1800 MHz frequency band (1710-1785 MHz and 1805-1880 MHz) on board aircraft (MCA).
