ANACOM releases reports on public consultations on the deployment and coverage of very high capacity fixed networks in ''blank areas''

At the request of the Government and within the scope of its responsibilities to provide support to the government, ANACOM has conducted two further public consultations on the deployment and coverage of very high capacity fixed networks in the national territory. This follows the public consultationhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1715215 launched in January 2022.

The public consultation on the deployment of very high capacity public electronic communications networks in “blank areas”https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1733186, which closed on 19 December 2022, was held to collect contributions from all interested parties on matters associated with the identification and designation of “target areas” (previously designated “blank areas”) in which there is a lack of coverage by very high capacity fixed networks. It also sought inputs on the proposal to deploy high capacity networks in “target areas” with the use of public funding, and on recommendations for the content of the respective tender documents.

The public consultation on the deployment of very high capacity public electronic communications networks in the “blank areas”https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1740033, which closed 12 March 2023, was held to obtain input from all interested parties, especially network operators and electronic communications service providers, on possible future investment plans in very high capacity electronic communications networks. Looking at a relevant time horizon of 6 (six) years the consultation focused on plans for networks in geographic areas where they are currently not available (“target areas”); these areas are being identified through a remapping process to be carried out by ANACOM with a revised and optimized methodology.

ANACOM is now publishing the reports on these two public consultations, incorporating the public version of the contributions received.
