ANACOM launches consultation on a draft amendment to the NFAT as regards the 6725-7025 MHz frequency band

ANACOM approved, on 13 May 2021, a draft decision amending the national frequency allocation table (NFAT) as regards the 6725-7025 MHz frequency band.

The QNAF, as the fundamental regulatory tool for radio spectrum management, does not currently make available the 6725-7025 MHz frequency band for the Fixed Satellite Service (FSS), although the frequency bands in Appendix 30B of the Radio Regulations (RR) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in the Ku-band (10.7-10.95 GHz, 11.2-11.45 GHz and 12.75-13.25 GHz) have already been made available. The scarcity of radio spectrum increasingly requires its shared use.

ANACOM intends to make the 6725-7025 MHz frequency band available for FSS use by “fixed satellite service earth stations”, after having received expressions of interest in the use of this spectrum. ANACOM believes that sharing the 6725-7025 MHz frequency band between the FSS and existing radiocommunications services in Portugal is feasible.

Accordingly, this draft decision is submitted to the general consultation procedure for a period of 20 working days. Interested parties may send their contributions until 17 June 2021, in writing and in Portuguese, preferably by email to the address cp.6ghz@anacom.pt1.mailto:cp.6ghz@anacom.pt

Once the consultation process has been completed, contributions received will be made publicly available. Interested parties should therefore also send a version of contributions excluding any confidential information, for publication on this website.
