Revenues from package services increased by 5% in 2020


In 2020, revenues from package services amounted to around € 1.7 billion, up 5% compared to 2019. Revenues from 4/5P packages represented 63.1% of the total. By the end of 2020, the average monthly revenue per package subscriber was €34.69 (excluding VAT), up 0.4% compared to the previous year. In 2019, the growth had been 0.2%. The average monthly revenue was €43.79 for 4/5P packages (-3.4%) and €27.34 for 3P packages (+4.2%).

By the end of the period under analysis, the number of service package subscribers was around 4.2 million (+181 thousand or +4.4% compared to the previous year). The registered growth is associated to 4/5P packages (+112 thousand) and, to a lesser extent, to 3P packages (+85 thousand). The most widely used offers (2.1 million subscribers) were 4/5P packages, surpassing the 50% barrier of the total number of subscribers to package offers in Q2 2020 (50.3% at the end of 2020), followed by 3P packages, with 1.7 million subscribers (40.1%). The growth in the number of package subscribers had been on a slowdown since 2015, reaching the lowest relative annual changes in 2018 (3.9%) and 2020 (4.4%).

By the end of 2020, MEO was the provider with the largest share of package service subscribers (40.5%), followed by the NOS Group (36.5%), Vodafone (19.3%) and the NOWO/Onitelecom Group (3.5%). In comparison with the previous year, Vodafone and MEO increased their share of subscribers (+0.7 and +0.2 percentage points respectively), the shares of the NOS Group (-0.6 percentage points) and the NOWO/Onitelecom Group (-0.3 percentage points) having recorded a decrease.

The NOS Group was the provider with the largest share of package service revenues (41.0%), followed by MEO (40.7%), Vodafone (15.9%) and the NOWO/Onitelecom Group (2.4%). Compared to the previous year, Vodafone increased its share of revenues by 1.6 percentage points, as opposed to the reduction observed for the NOS Group, the NOWO/Onitelecom Group and MEO (-0.8, -0.4 and -0.3 percentage points, respectively).
