ANACOM approves new addendum to the national roadmap for the 700 MHz band

By decision of 10 September 10, ANACOM approved the second addendum to the national roadmap for the 700 MHz band, which establishes the plan and schedule for the release of this frequency band from its current utilisations, as well as the respective allocation for wireless broadband electronic communications services, namely for the development of the 5th generation mobile network (5G).

With the change of the exceptional and temporary measures in response to the epidemiological situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the terrestrial digital television network migration processhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1557821 has been restarted for the sub-700 MHz band, with the lifting of the suspension of the consultation periodshttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1538302 on the draft regulation of the auction for the allocation of right of use of frequencies in the 700 MHz band and other relevant bands.

Accordingly, the indicative schedule for the allocation of right of use of frequencies in the 700 MHz was reviewed, taking into the account the impact of the suspension of the public consultation procedure between March and July 2020 due to the pandemic crisis.

As shown in the revised indicative schedule, it is expected that the auction regulation should be approved in September and that the auction should start in October 2020, with the completion of the procedures of allocation of the corresponding user rights being foreseen to occur in early 2021.
