ANACOM explains DTT migration to the intermunicipal community in the Douro Region

A meeting was held on 26 August between ANACOM and the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Community (CIM RC) with the aim of disclosing information on the migration of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) network and the measures adopted by ANACOM to minimise the impact of this process on the people.

One of the aspects highlighted at this meeting by the Chairman of ANACOM, João Cadete de Matos, was the free telephone helpline (800 102 002), which is in operation every day from 9 am to 10 pm, for people to phone in and clear up any doubts they may have and get help synchronising their televisions or DTT scramblers. If they are unable to synchronise the equipment themselves or with the help provided through the helpline, ANACOM will schedule a visit to their home by its technical staff in order to synchronise it, free of charge. ANACOM also spoke about the distribution of a letter with an information leaflet to all homes and commercial establishments, as well as other planned communication initiatives.

The DTT transmitters serving the municipalities in the Douro Region Intermunicipal Community will be changed between 30 September and 15 October, starting with the Resende transmitter.

This Intermunicipal Community encompasses Alijó, Armamar, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Lamego, Mesão Frio, Murça, Peso da Régua, Moimenta da Beira, Penedono, São João da Pesqueira, Sernancelhe, Sabrosa, Santa Marta de Penaguião, Tabuaço, Tarouca, Torre de Moncorvo, Vila Nova de Foz Côa and Vila Real municipalities.

At the meeting, the representatives shared their concerns about the poor mobile network coverage, both in terms of voice and data. The low fibre optic coverage was another subject discussed, with the representatives defending the importance of having good broadband coverage, whether fixed or mobile, to reduce distances and promote the economic and social development of the region.

The postal service and the Municipal Fee for Rights of Way were other issues raised.
