Meeting of ECC WG NaN PT NPS - May 2019

The project team on Number Portability and Switching (PT NPS) of the ECC’s WG NaN was held last 2-3 May in Lillesand, Norway.

This team has been producing studies, reports and recommendations on aspects concerning the simplification of operator switching, specifically number portability and over-the-air (OTA). It has also been discussing fraud based on number usage.

The meeting participants conducted a final review of Recommendation ECC(11)02 on calling line identification and originating identification, based on the results of reports ECC 248 and ECC 275, and agreed to submit it to the working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) for approval and the respective public consultation. Aware of changes made to the previous recommendation, it was deemed appropriate to give the recommendation a new number and revoke the previous Recommendation ECC(11)02.

Also reviewed were two reports still being prepared:

  • ECC report on number portability and routing in a totally IP environment;
  • ECC report on caller ID spoofing.

The team considered that Recommendation ECC REC(05)09 on customer protection in case of misuse or unauthorized use of international E.164 numbering resources would no longer be relevant in the current context, so it will make the respective proposal.

The group’s next meeting has been scheduled for this coming October.
